ROBERT H.G. WEIRAUCH (* 23 IX 1974) began his early studies in mechanical engineering in Aachen. In 1993, he switched to piano with Tonie Ehlen at the Maastricht Conservatory. From 1995 on he also studied composition under John Slangen. He completed both studies in 2000. Since then, he lives as a freelance pianist and composer. As a pianist, Robert is busy performing (modern) chamber music, notably with his ensembles Quatuor Attaque, Simurg and the Matty Niël Consort. Since 2005 he has worked as an accompanist at the Maastricht Conservatory. Together with mezzosoprano Regula Boeninger he performs as a "lied" duo. In 2003 they won the International Brahms Competition in Pörtschach, Austria. He frequently performs with soprano Claudia Couwenbergh as well; since 2008 all three are members of "Vrienden van het Lied". He also works regularly as an accompanist during opera productions. Robert has composed over 60 works, including chamber, choral, film, orchestral and synthesizer music. In 2001, his opera "The History Of The Devil" (based on the play by Clive Barker) was awarded 2nd prize at the Dimitri Mitropoulos International Competition in Athens, Greece. In October 2007 he was the recipient of the Bremen Encouragement Award for young talented artists.
